Paya Lebar Airport/AirBase

Recently the government announced that the current Paya Lebar Airbase (previously Paya Lebar Airport built in 1955) will be shit to Changi East Air Base by 2030 during the National Day Rally 2013 (NDR 2013).

800 hectares of land to be freed up after the relocation of Paya Lebar Airbase for future development. This mean that it also removes the height restrictions around Paya Lebar.

It will be pity that the Paya Lebar Airport will be tear down and to build a new town. I know that changes we could not be avoid, but it will be great if they could saved the old building structure or memory lane so that the new generation will remember our history and heritage. It can blend it very well from the old to modern building.

For example, Bugis Junction where they retrain the colony building and turn into shopping mall and hotel. Or Raffles Place MRT where they keep the small portion of the colony wall when they built the MRT. Or Clarke Quay. Where the old colony building turn into international food restaurant and entertainment district.

I am very fortunate that my late grandmother left behind a great treasure that could not use the money to buy. A receipt from former Land Office, Singapore (Now known as Singapore Land Authority <SLA>).

My grandmother used to work at Paya Lebar Airport. It required temprorary Occupation Licence to work at Paya Lebar Airport and the receipt was issued by Land Office.

Hopefully the government could open a tour before the Paya Lebar Airbase will be demolish for future development.

If any one of you had old photos of Paya Lebar Airport or if you been posted to Paya Lebar Airbase, you are invited to share your story with us. So that the reader will know our history.
